Kris was born in Toronto, Ontario, on May 24, 1971. He was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1989 NHL Entry Level Draft. He was the 4th choice, 62nd overall in the third round. He was traded to Detroit from Winnipeg for future considerations on June 30, 1993. Last season Kris had a career and season high four-game streak which included 2 game winning assists and 2 goals. He was plus or even in 41 of 52 games. He played his 100th NHL game on October 15, 1995. Kris played two seasons on the Canadian National Team.
